About R.R. CPL

What sets us apart?

At R.R. CPL Training, we prioritize practical application, comprehensive knowledge, and personalized attention. Our CPL training goes beyond the basics, ensuring you are fully prepared and confident. We keep our courses informative and engaging, because learning should be fun!

Why choose R.R. CPL?

What makes our CPL training different from other options in Michigan? We make learning fun by delivering cut and dry information in a very engaging manner. We strive to make our classes easy to follow, so students leave not only passing, but confident in their knowledge of firearm use and safety.

A story from the field

We had a student who mistakenly brought the wrong caliber magazine for their pistol. The firearm repeatedly jammed until I inspected it and found the reason. I have the same model pistol and gave this student one of my magazines to use. This student and others in the class learned the importance of always inspecting their firearm and components to assure proper function.

"Our goal is not just to hand out CPL certificates, but to train our students so they leave with full knowledge of every aspect of carrying a concealed pistol in Michigan."

Your instructor

My love for the outdoors and firearms started at a young age. I started hunting when I was about six years old, and what began as a childhood passion grew into a lifelong love of hunting, shooting, and the outdoors. Today, I’m an avid outdoorsman, spending most of my time chasing whitetail deer and upland birds.

A few years ago, I started raising ringneck pheasants and created our family homestead, Rooster Ridge. That’s also where the “R.R.” in my CPL business comes from. Rooster Ridge has become a special place for our family and a reflection of my love for the outdoors and the traditions that come with it.

Outside of hunting and shooting, I stay busy volunteering with our local Little League baseball board and coaching my son’s team. Family, community, and passing along what I’ve learned are a big part of who I am.

Teaching firearms is a natural extension of that. Over the years, I’ve had friends and family come to my range who were nervous or even afraid to shoot. I enjoyed helping them become more comfortable, confident, and safe around firearms. Seeing that transformation—and having them encourage me to share that experience with others—is ultimately what led me to become a firearms instructor.

My goal is simple: to share what I’ve learned, make people feel comfortable asking questions, and help others become safe, responsible, and confident around firearms.
